Sidney Crosby Gets Smacked in the Mouth, Takes Stick to Groin Against Hurricanes

“Lady in blue! Coming through!”  Tuesday night’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes couldn’t have went much worse for Sidney Crosby, who suffered through the hockey equivalent of a Three Stooges routine after an early assist.  The Pittsburgh Penguins captain received an errant smack to the jaw from a linesman and later followed it by taking a hockey stick to the papa pouch. GIFs of the physical comedy affronting Crosby were crafted by Mike Darnay of Pensburgh.com and GoldAndOrSmith.com (h/t Pete Blackburn of NextImpulseSports.com). The pain began with the lineman slap, which seemingly threatened to lay Crosby low. Was the linesman wearing a class ring? ...

Pittsburgh Penguins Would Be Crazy to Fire Dan Bylsma

There's been a lot of chatter lately surrounding Dan Bylsma's future with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Rory Boylen of The Hockey News examined the question last week and managed to come up with three reasons to fire Bylsma. Greg Wyshynski of Puck Daddy called for his head last summer before pinning Team USA's crippling Olympic loss on the bench boss in February. Sports Illustrated's Allan Muir went as far as writing that there are actual rumors concerning the Penguins and their possible desire to replace Bylsma before the playoffs begin—a subtle but notable jump from pure speculation to something that could have some ...

It's a cruel reality of sports that, each season, every team but one will end the season disappointed at the outcome. Which Eastern Conference Playoff Bubble Team Should Penguins Cheer For?

The Eastern Conference became even more of a logjam last night, and the race for the two wild-card spots has reached a fever pitch. The Columbus Blue Jackets and Detroit Red Wings currently hold the conference's final two playoff spots with 80 points, but the Washington Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs are right there with them with 80 points as well. It would take a Toronto Maple Leafs-esque collapse to push the Pittsburgh Penguins out of the Metropolitan Division's No. 1 spot, and with an eight-point lead over the third-place Montreal Canadiens in the East, it seems safe to assume that ...

Pittsburgh Penguins’ 5 Most Impressive Individual Performances in 2013-14

The NHL season is the most grueling in all of sports. Baseball players take part in more contests, but they aren't nearly as physically demanding. Tack on the possibility of playing through four seven-game series en route to the Stanley Cup, and it's clear that hockey is a team game. One forward can't win the whole thing by himself, and it's impossible for a goalie to score enough goals to make a 42-save shutout stand up over and over—though it wouldn't be surprising to see Jonathan Quick try. Still, sometimes a player has an outstanding game, and it really does seem like ...

Stock Up, Stock Down for Pittsburgh Penguins’ Top Stars

Hockey analysts and fans are fond of saying, "It's not how you're playing in the fall but rather how you're playing in the spring that matters." For the Pittsburgh Penguins, a team looking to rebound from a disappointing end to their last postseason run, that sentiment couldn't be more true. Despite having run away with the Metropolitan Division, they must stay focused on getting ready for the postseason. As the Pens enter the homestretch of the regular season and get ready for another run at the Stanley Cup, let's take a look at how their top stars are trending.Begin Slideshow
